Proud moment!

Scott has slowly been evolving his wardrobe from comic book t-shirts and ill-fitting jeans that his mom bought to actually paying attention to what he's wearing.  After just having bought him a suit last summer as a grad gift, I thought he was reading to take on the world of job interviews.  Little did either of us realize, the suit quickly swam on him, and he was in need of another interview appropriate outfit pronto.  As much as I hated shopping with him in the past, he seems a lot more comfortable in his body, and in change rooms.  Not wanting to re-invent the suit (since we have plans to get it tailored), we searched for a suit alternative, and ended up with pants and a vest from Le Chateau - a shop he would not have been caught dead in 12 months ago.  While the outfit did need some tailoring (seriously, I realize Scott's not that tall, but I took 4 1/2 inches off the bottom of his pants today), I'm damn impressed... and he pretty much chose it all by himself!  He's going to look fabulous when he heads off to his interview today

I only the other hand wasn't dressing for success, but comfort... and comfortable I was!

Tell tale signs of spring

I'm sitting in a beam of sunlight, with a light breeze coming through the open window.  I'd say it's a perfect day, but I'm stuck at home working on take-home exams, instead being outside enjoying the weather.

To add to the downfalls of spring, my eyes are so dry and itchy from allergies that I've had to resort to glasses instead of contacts.  As well, the beam of sunlight is rather inopportune considering my apartment is sweltering.  And even though I hate working on take home exams, I am rather peeved that I continuously have to leave my apartment because we're moving soon, and so the leasing company is showing it to prospective new tenants.

However, today's 'right smack dab in the middle of my productivity showing did give me a reason to get out of my pajamas and into some clothes.

I've tried to keep my clothes from being "seasonal" to the best of my ability, but there is always something fabulous about new clothes in a new season.  Today was probably as close as I get.  I bought the tights last fall when I moved into this apartment and was at Walmart buying random cleaning supplies and the like.  Being rather grumpy about moving in the first place, I figured I deserved a treat, and I loved the zippers on the sides.

I picked up the dress a few weeks back (same trip as the jacket).  I'm not sold on it's fit, but the pattern I love.

And of course, throwing on sandals for the first time always helps too!

Copy Cat

I won't lie: I'm horrible at getting distracted while I should be writing my essays.  It used to be when I got distracted, it would be that I would have decided my living space was too messy and went on a cleaning rampage.  Instead, yesterday I didn't realize until 5 that I hadn't even done that, when no work had happened on my essay.  My solution was then to start cleaning, only to be distracted by blogs.

Lo and behold, I did in fact find someone else equally as distracted by me, and decided she was so adorably cutely dressed I had to emulate her. While I don't have her skirt, I did the best I could with my American Apparel bandeau dress.

It was a little odd playing dress up around 7 at night with no plans to go out, so when the opportunity to go to Walmart came up, I went, even though it was definitely too cold for this outfit.

My hair dried naturally, so I'm not crazy about it (I didn't hate it as much as usual, which was a nice change, but I definitely don't like it), so I decided it was the day of experimenting, and tried out some blue eye liner.  I really have no opinion on it...

What I did love was the bow I made out of the straps of the dress.  Something about a bow just made me so happy!

Blown Away

I was planning on wearing my green cotton dress without tights today, because nothing says spring quite like an airy skirt and bare legs.  Apparently nothing says Saskatchewan like like insane winds.  I barely slept at all last night  because it was howling through my window.  Needless to say, I went for fully covered legs today, and a thicker, more sturdy heel.  After all, if semis are being blown off the highway, I didn't want to be blown off my feet with my skirt up around my face.

How windy is it here, you ask?  According to the modern Beaufort scale, we are in "heavy storm" which is the category below "hurricane".  We're seeing gusts of over 104 km / h (that's 65 miles, for you Americans). While I realize some of you do live in actual threat of hurricanes, this is pretty crazy for the prairies, especially for me.  While I am a prairie girl, we rarely saw wind like this 3 1/2 hours east of where I am now.  While people here are rather shocked at the gusts, for the most part, wind is just par for the course for them.  I hope I don't get used to it!

It was a good thing I did change my outift:  My walk from work to the bus doubled in length since sheets of glass and signs were falling off of the taller office buildings, essentially shutting down blocks of the city.

Brown is the colour of spring?

I've been oddly drawn to brown this spring.  I'm not entirely sure why, though perhaps hearing "black is very harsh on older skin" has made me prematurely aware of how pale I am.  Or perhaps it's because of the purse and jacket being my most recent clothing purchases.

I bought the purse at Urban Planet for $5, and the jacket at Value Village for $8. The picture really doesn't do the jacket justice.  It does need some patching in the back, but I'll get to that once exams and essays are over.

I have also decided that I'm going to put more effort into my clothing.  My rule for this week is to either a) layer (and a hoodie doesn't count!) or accessorize.  Today, I did both.  I'm also mixing patterns, a floral tank with my argyle shoes.  It's a start.

And I decided to do my hair in Kasmira's lazy girl's updo.  I'm not convinced I like it, because, as you can see from the pictures, I look a little bald from the front, and a little crazy from the back.  However, I didn't have much time this morning to get ready, as Scott and I are hoping to move into a new place, so we've been extra vigilant about keeping this place clean in case the leasing agent wants to show it.  This morning consisted of making sure that my bed was made, and my make up was all put away.

Rain Shoes

I told a prof yesterday that it would be a whole lot easier to get my term paper done if there were three solid days of rain.  Unfortunately (and fortunately, because I do actually like the sun, it just makes me very unproductive), there is no forecast for rain in the foreseeable future.  Just beautiful, beautiful sunshine.

However, today, I thought I'd encourage the weather a bit by wearing my yellow shoes - perfect for sunny skies, but constructed for rainy days.

And the redness of the skin?  Well, it's either the first sunburn of the season, or it's really that warm in my apartment (and I did just double check that I have the heat turned off!)

Objects in mirror may be worse than they appear!

I love spring, and spring always makes me reach for skirts / dresses / anything that allows for free movement.  Thus, I was super excited about what I was wearing today.  So excited that I decided to resurrect the blog.

And then I took a picture (since my camera battery evidently lost its juice not being used), and now I'm horrified I went out in it.

My intent was to pull out the pink colour from the shirt.  As you can tell from the pictures, this failed, and my legs thus look kind of crazy.  I wondered why everyone was commenting specifically on the belt... and nothing else.

Oh well, lesson learnt...
