It's far too early to in my exercise regimen to experience anything to call a set back. But if it's not a set back, is it an excuse?
What started as the sniffles quickly turned into a fullblown cold. Convincing myself to get out of bed in the morning was hard enough. Trying to squeeze in even 5 minutes of exercise was difficult, verging on impossible.
On the one hand, moving around seems to help move around the congestion (I have no clue if its a scientific fact, but a good run always clears my lungs). On the other, not letting your body rest can prolong infection.
My solution was to only do as much as my body would let me. I skipped the jumping jacks and the burpees to reduce the issues with chest congestion (mid-jump coughing attacks can be dangerous to the uncoordinated), and only did as many reps of the remaining activities as I could handle.
Turns out, based on my quick results, a good general rule is if the illness is contained from the neck up, exercise as your body allows you. From the neck down, don't sweat it - it's best to rest until you're all better (and then a couple days more).
I applaud your determination to stick to your exercising routine, but don't sweat it! Rest and feel better!
ReplyDeleteKudos for your dedication. If I'm sick at all, I can't move. But I also don't have a regular routine either so I'm just a lazy butt lol. Feel better soon! Lots of hot tea!
ReplyDeleteAw, I hope you feel better soon! I'm feeling the ick too, so I've been doing MUCH lighter workouts, but still trying to do something.
