Despite it feeling like it's been weeks of me nagging Scott to come up with a plan for our vacation, it still managed to sneak up on us. With family obligations on Monday, social obligations on Tuesday, we only have Wednesday and Thursday to pull together everything we need for 10 days away, which seems to bounce back and forth between low key camping and 4 star spa resort.
Our Jekyll/Hyde vacation needs a fair bit of organization.
My solution is, as always, lists. I get twitchy when I don't have paper at hand to make lists. Yes, I have both the default "Notes" on my iPhone and now "Evernote" but there is just something much more efficient and calming about putting pen to paper.
I discovered the thrill of carrying a coil bound notebook when I started my thesis -- I bought one to house all my thoughts, notes and references and for that extended-year, I had heart palpitations when I didn't have it close at hand. After my thesis was done, though, I fell out of the habit.
As an attempt to pull myself back together after the malaise of the last few months, I bought myself a notebook to keep in my purse for on the bus scribbling (much more productive than on the bus sulking).
Quickly, the act of putting pen to paper turned into the desire to write... non-fiction... fiction...every once and a while a poem (please note: under no circumstance am I to be considered a poet). I then needed a notebook for writing (which is, of course, an entirely different animal from scribbling).
I have lists of what I want to bring for clothes. List of questions for Scott to ask his parents. Lists of restaurants I want to eat at. Lists of things that have to be done before we can go. I'm even contemplating a list of lists just so I remember what lists I can complete.
What do you use to make sure you life stays on track??
